Haley Barnett's charcoal drawings have received national recognition. During high school her drawing Shadows won the prestigious National Scholastic Gold Key Award (1999). She was recognized at a ceremony in Washington, DC, where her piece was displayed at the Corcoran Gallery of Art. For one year, the work traveled on exhibit in museums throughout the country. Haley attended the University of Colorado, Boulder, at which she received a bachelor's degree in fine arts with an emphasis in drawing. She remains a member of the Gold Key Society of the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers.

Haley showed her work at Bucktown's Around the Coyote Arts Festival, where she was selected as 'curator's choice artist'. Tricia Van Eck, curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, selected artworks for inclusion in the "Curator's Choice" exhibition. The show displayed a small group of works deemed "best of the fest" during the festival. Haley's curator selected piece has been displayed at the Around the Coyote Gallery during month of September 2006, and was auctioned off to support Around the Coyote's arts and education programming.
